About ModSecret
ModSecret is a Nigerian skincare and cosmetics brand that utilizes locally sourced, sustainable ingredients to produce indigenous, skin-friendly products.
Role Summary
Co-Founder | Brand & Marketing Strategist
I co-founded ModSecret and co-led early-stage business direction, taking ownership of brand development and go-to-market strategy from concept to launch. I defined brand positioning and messaging architecture, built buyer personas, and shaped the visual and product identity in collaboration with designers and suppliers. I also supported early customer engagement and outreach efforts that helped establish initial market presence.

Challenges
The primary challenge was transforming an idea into a credible consumer brand. With no existing brand assets, audience, or market recognition, we needed to define who ModSecret was, what differentiated it, and how to communicate that consistently across every customer touchpoint. At the same time, we had to build trust for a new skincare brand using limited early-stage resources while competing in an increasingly crowded beauty market, where both established and emerging brands compete for consumer trust and attention.

Impact
Led the development of the brand from concept to launch, establishing a clear positioning, messaging framework, and visual identity that differentiated the business in Nigeria's competitive beauty market.
Spearheaded the go-to-market strategy that contributed to acquiring 300+ customers within the first 12 months of launch.
Successfully launched 8 skincare products, coordinating branding, packaging, supplier collaboration, and market introduction.
Contributed to generating over ₦10 million in sales within the first 12 months of launch by combining strategic branding, product positioning, and customer acquisition efforts.
Established partnerships with 5 micro-influencers and local creators to increase brand awareness and expand reach among target audiences.
Built the foundational brand system, including brand guidelines, messaging, packaging direction, and launch assets that continue to support the company's growth and future product expansion.
Key Takeaways
Building ModSecret from the ground up taught me how brand decisions become practical tools, not just aesthetics. I learned to make positioning, visuals, and messaging work together to support real business goals and earn trust in a market where credibility has to be established early.
